She was initially inspired by the shadows that were cast onto grass. After a few weeks, she developed a method which did not make the subject onto canvas in a flat image. When the objects are alive or perishable like humans and fruits, they become a painting of them. Alexa's painting style has an ephemeral quality, the only thing left of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. Photography and painting are tightly together to produce an unflattering two-dimensional space that is trompe-l'oeil. At certain locations, three dimensions are seen, for example, near the eye or the hair. Meade will sometimes integrate her painting into the three-dimensional surroundings around it and allows the model to be a part of the context of their own. The lines between performance, photography, and installation can be dissolved.
